LFS players in real life motorsports

From LFS Manual
Jump to navigationJump to search

This article aims to collect information about LFS players who have been or are active in real life motorsports as well. Over the years, there have been multiple attempts by the community to create lists of these drivers, more or less partially. At the very least, a person appearing in the list is based on any kind of mention on the LFS forums (so, if a community member mentioned them playing LFS, they are included in the list). Feel free to expand the table with (preferably referenced) information you find or know. For detailed guidelines on how to contribute, see section Guidelines below the table.

Caution.png Disclaimer: The list is non-exhaustive, and does not distinguish the fact that a driver first got into simracing and then into real life motorsports, or the other way (and that is not the point, really). Might there be any inaccuracies, outdated or controversial information either spotted by community members or the drivers themselves, feel free to shed light on them in the LFS Community Discord server (#lfs-manual channel), create a post on the Discussions page of this article, or contact one of the editors here directly.

Guidelines for consistent research and editing the table

  • Make sure to research and prove the fact of them playing LFS as precisely as you can, based on sources. Sometimes it's a reliable source like an article with an interview with the driver, sometimes it's them signing up to some kind of a LFS league, sometimes it's just a mention of them having played LFS on the LFS forums, Discord, server chat, but stated by someone else. Find sources and include them in the "Source" field as links.
  • The table does not aim to include a complete or up-to-date real-life racing record for a driver. For that, you can see other websites, mainly the driver's article on the English Wikipedia, which is usually much more diverse and gives more precise overview. Therefore, in this table, include only the major championships and results (more on that below at Field descriptions).
  • In general, try to avoid making the rows higher than default, by avoiding overfilling the rows with information. For specific fields and their guidelines, see below:
  • Fields:
    • Name: driver's full name. If possible, link to their English Wikipedia articles, with the {{plain link}} template, like this: {{plain link|https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dennis_Lind|Dennis Lind}}. Those articles usually contain helpful racing record tables, based on which you can find information for columns Championships and Achievements (see below).
    • Main discipline(s): main disciplines they engage in. Maximum of three. Examples include Formula racing, GT racing, Drifting, Truck racing, Touring car racing, Rally, Rallycross, Karting.
    • Championships: notable and well-known championships they participated in, regardless of any results. Aim to mention championship names in full, but make sure you don't mention every single one. If needed to conserve width, only then abbreviate.
    • Achievements: mainly major championship titles and podiums in final standings (e.g. no individual round results / wins / podiums). Try to aim for a format like this: 1st: ETRC (2004, 2006), 3rd: F1 (2015). If there are none, mention a few race wins in their championship of the highest prestige, in a compact manner. For this field, do abbreviate championships at all times, as seen in the example.
    • DriverDB: link to the driver's DriverDB profile, if present. When multiple drivers are found under the same name, make sure you do further research to pinpoint and link the correct one here, in default MediaWiki link syntax, like this: [https://www.driverdb.com/drivers/norbert-kiss DriverDB]. If the driver is not on DriverDB but on another database website (for example WorldSBK, eWRC), you can link that instead.
    • Active years in LFS: interval(s), if known. For this, you can look at their LFS profile and their LFSW race history. Usually, the "join date" on profile page is quite a trusted source of indication when they started playing LFS actively. Even though the "Last online" field shows any kind of online connection to any game server (without a finished race), you can freely take that as the active interval(s)' final end year. Do not regard "Last activity", found on the LFS website profile, as an active period, since it also shows if they logged in the LFS website (that does not mean they actually played LFS, maybe just checked forums). Verify yearly intervals by looking through the LFSW race history for the driver (click through months - every day marked in bold had an online race finished by the driver). Think of years as inclusive (so if they had a single online race or activity in year 2015, include that year). If there is an online source for this (for example in an article which concluded an interview with the driver), that source is given priority. Make sure to link sources for this in the "Source" field in the table.
    • LFSW username: if known. Use the {{LFSW stats link|username}} template. Arguably the most reliable sources for this: signup entries to major LFS championships and leagues, made by the driver, as these signups usually require real names. You can also find these in LFS championship entry lists, race reports, season conclusion reports, final standings etc. Make sure to link proof and sources for this in the "Source" field. If not known, use template {{Unknown}}.
    • Source: links to the sources for facts stated in LFS-related fields and specifically proving they played LFS. Include any kind of source, even if its just a single mention of another member of the LFS community, stating that the driver in question plays or has played LFS. LFS forum threads, specific posts, and any kind of more robust, external news articles if found. Use the default link syntax for MediaWiki, and in case of multiple sources for a driver, increment the source number just to distinguish them: [https://www.google.com 1].
